First Entry
During the first week's class session we basically just went through the course outline. we were also tasked with going to research what the 6+1 writing traits were. Also, we discussed the various tasks and what they entail. After further research, it was found that the 6+1 traits of writing are Voice, Ideas, Presentation, Conventions, Organization, Word Choice, and Sentence Fluency, or V.I.P C.O.W.S for short. This model is a means of providing feedback to students through the assessment of their writing because it allows the teacher and the students to focus on one (1) or two(2) elements of writing at a time to create a more effective way for students to learn how to writing. The opening activity in the 2nd class of the same week where scenarios were given for us to do demonstrations was highly educational. it showed how the bad way works while helping students to write and then it progressed to the correct way of teaching writing with the insight the correct way, it is best to say that the correct way will be more beneficial for beginning writers because it gives them extra guidance so that they can monitor their writing with the help of a teacher or other peers and I can see these methods being used in a practice to give students a boost in their confidence to continue writing.
Moreover, during the second week, what I enjoyed the most about the lesson was how we can use graphic organizers to help students by simplifying their information. They are also beneficial to students who are visual learners because it makes it easier for them to plan out the information that they want to use to do their writing. It is also great to implement the use of visual aids in writing because they promote audience engagement, aid in audience comprehension and retention, and act as notes or reminders for the speaker. Also, the visual help makes the text more interesting and clear.
I also like the idea of using graphic organizers for assisting students with their writing. I strongly believe it is beneficial to the learners as it helps them to compile all their information cohesively. It is most definitely beneficial to visual learners. As teachers, we should always strive to cater to the different learning styles of our students.
